Chairs by Antonius Roberts
For
the Transforming Spaces 2008 community event Post House Gallery
displayed "CHAIRS". The chairs were sculpted by Antonius Roberts out
of reclaimed Madeira and Royal Palm trees that were uprooted during
the hurricane season of 2004.
Inspired by his desire to speak to the issues of transformation and
preservation, this work celebrates the "Original Bahamians" and their
creation of "Duhos" and "Hammocks"
The spirit of the Madeira and Royal Palm, which bowed respectfully to
gale force winds, are now transformed into functional sculptures.
